The mission is to provide an after school and summer program to high risk children.
The cause will focus 100 percent on the unmet need in our community as the need is the only one available in area. The Center is an after school and summer program for high risk children and families that receives spiritual, emotional and physical and intellectual guidance. A part of this program is to ensure the children have foods available on weekends throughout the year.
The $25,000 would help address the unmet need by supplying nutritional foods for the weekend back packs. Presently 60-75 bags are packed weekly for an average cost of approximately $7.00 per child or yearly average of $26,000.
These children are of high risk mainly due to poverty and also opiate use environment in our area. Being a part of Southern West Virginia, a high unemployment rate also exist.
This grant would have a lasting impact on the children of this community by providing a form of nutrition to aid in their physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual being to become a productive citizen in the community.
